UMKC Career Services partners with faculty and academic departments in a variety of ways. Whether you are looking for tools and systems to manage internships for credit, the latest trends and employment statistics for career, supplemental videos, or a guest presenter for your class, we are here to work with you! We have staff liaisons assigned to specific UMKC schools or colleges who can assist you in a number of ways:

Handshake Access 

Create a Faculty/staff account for your office or department in Handshake to see events, programs, internships, and jobs! Once in Handshake, designated campus members will also have access to post a full, part-time, or work-study positions for students and alumni for free.

If you receive a full or part-time position announcements from alumni or employers, we invite you to send the listing to our office as well. We are always happy to promote those positions on Handshake!

EXPERIENCES Internship Management Tool

Presentations & Career Information

We offer in-person/virtual presentations and workshops on a variety of career topics, such as introduction to our services, resume development, interviewing, salary negotiation, and more. To request a presentation for your class or for a student group, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.

In addition to presentations and workshops, we also offer mock interview clinics for your class or student group and outcomes data for your department: internships, employment rates, top employers, and salaries.

Faculty/Staff Career Training

We offer workshops for faculty and staff that will provide essential information for assisting students with career-related questions. We know students reach out to faculty and staff to get help on a variety of topics, including resume writing, recommendations, general career questions, etc.

Our training will cover the basics: resume writing, cover letters, general questions commonly asked by students, steps students should take when they need more in-depth assistance.

To make sure that campus members are providing up-to-date information, we encourage faculty, staff, and departments to reach out to our team at careerservices@umkc.edu to set up a time for a training.

Employer Contacts
If you are contacted by an employer who is interested in posting a position, scheduling on-campus interviews, or general information about majors/departments other than your own, we encourage you to forward the employer to yourcareer services liaison or email UMKC Career Services at careerservices@umkc.edu.

Post a Work-Study Position
If you or your department has a position that qualifies for work-study funds, you will post your work-study position through the work study jobs database managed by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. Students will view work-study positions by accessing Handshake. If you would like more information about how your position may become work-study eligible, please contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@umkc.edu.

Employer Panels
If you are interested in hosting a panel of employers to talk about opportunities in their career fields or organizations, please contact our office. We would be happy to work with you to coordinate an employer panel for your class.

Appointment with a Career Coach

Through Handshake, students can make an appointment with one of our career coaches on a variety of career-related topics including:

  • Choosing a major/career path
  • Interviewing
  • Resume/CV development
  • Cover letter writing
  • Internship/job searching
  • Graduate/professional school materials

Major/Career Exploration
UMKC Career Services provides career planning assistance. You may refer your student to speak with a career coach, who will provide confidential assistance to help him or her identify the career assessment(s) that will best help with decisions regarding major and career exploration. Students may request appointments via Handshake.

Internship & Job Search Process
Handshake is UMKC’s online job database. Full and part-time positions, internships, co-ops and other positions are posted on the network. Registration is free to students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff. You are encouraged to create an account to review current job postings and send recommendations to your students. Contact UMKC Career Services for assistance in setting up your account.

On-Campus Recruiting & Career Fairs

Each semester, more than 200 on-campus interviews are coordinated through UMKC Career Services. As a faculty and staff member, we thank you for your support and ask that you continue to encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities to interact with employers. Prepping for Graduate/Professional School

If your student is interested in applying to graduate/professional school, UMKC Career Services provides assistance regarding the search process and preparation resources. The UMKC Career Services staff also provides mock interviews and will review personal statements and resumes.
