UMKC Career Services provides the latest in employment trends and statistics, a presenter for your class or support if you have students in need of career advice and guidance. Additionally, we have staff liaisons to specific UMKC schools or colleges, who can assist you in a number of ways:
• Major-specific presentations on resume construction, interviewing, job search strategy, etc.
• Help with establishing a job search agent or faculty account in Handshake
• Give presentations to your class on a variety of Career Services topics
• Coordinate a mock interview clinic for your class or student group
• Forward major-specific job listings, events and other relevant information to departments

If you are contacted by an employer who is interested in posting a position, scheduling on-campus interviews, or general information about majors/departments other than your own, we encourage you to forward the employer to your Career Services liaison or contact LaRae Vowiell at 816-235-5427 or vowiellL@umkc.edu.
Post a Work-Study Position
If you or your department has a position that qualifies for work-study funds, you will post your work-study position through the work study jobs database managed by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. Students will view work-study positions by accessing Handshake. If you would like more information about how your position may become work-study eligible, please contact the Financial Aid Office at email@example.com.
Post a Full or Part-Time Position
You may also post any full or part-time position from your department for free on Handshake. If you receive a full or part-time position announcement from alumni or employers, we invite you to send the listing to our office as well. We are always happy to promote openings through Handshake.
UMKC Career Services Visits/Employer Panels
Faculty and staff may arrange to have Career Services staff visit their classrooms to provide an overview of Career Services resources and services. Please contact us for more information and to request a reservation.
Additionally, if you are interested in hosting a panel of employers to talk about opportunities in their career fields or organizations, please contact our office. We would be happy to work with you to coordinate an employer panel for your class.
Resources for Students

UMKC Career Services provides career planning assistance. You may refer your student to speak with a career counselor, who will provide confidential assistance to help him or her identify the career assessment(s) that will best help with decisions regarding major and career exploration. Students may request appointments via Handshake.
Internship & Job Search Process
Handshake is UMKC’s online job database. Full and part-time positions, internships, co-ops and other positions are posted on the network. Registration is free to students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff. You are encouraged to create an account to review current job postings and send recommendations to your students. Contact Career Services for assistance in setting up your account.
Resume and/or curriculum vitae development, cover letter writing information, interviewing tips, mock interviews and business attire guidelines are just some of the resources we offer to students and alumni to help them in their internship/job search process. We also provide these confidential services to faculty and staff.
On-Campus Recruiting & Career Fairs Each semester, more than 200 on-campus interviews are coordinated through UMKC Career Services. As a faculty and staff member, we thank you for your support and ask that you continue to encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities to interact with employers. Resources to Help Your Student If your student is interested in applying to graduate/professional school, UMKC Career Services provides assistance regarding the search process and preparation resources. The Career Services staff also provides mock interviews and will review personal statements and resumes.
