Developing Your Resume

Start by writing down your experiences from work, volunteer activities, education, honors, awards, skills and classroom projects/presentations. Make a long list first and then narrow down what might be appropriate for your resume. You can also start grouping similar items together to figure out what sections to include

After determining what sections you want to include, order them so that the most relevant sections come first.  As students or new graduates, it is common to start with your Education before moving on to other sections.

Be sure that your resume is easy to read by using consistent fonts and limiting bold/italics. It’s also important to keep your resume to one page. View the sample resumes below for ideas on formatting your resume.

Prepare different versions of your resume tailored for each position. Utilize power words from the job description in your experience descriptions.
