Overview

The Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Rales Fellows Program is a distinctive and transformative program dedicated to developing a diverse community of exceptionally talented national STEM leaders from underrepresented backgrounds by eliminating cost as a barrier to graduate education.

Rales Fellows work toward advancements in the sciences and technology to further human progress while inspiring and building a path for others to follow. When fully implemented, the CMU Rales Fellows Program expects to support a cohort of more than 80 fellows in M.S. and Ph.D. programs annually.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

• A U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DACA recipient
• Applying to an eligible, graduate STEM degree on CMU’s Pittsburgh campus

Priority is given to students who are from underrepresented and underresourced background, including, but not limited to, socioeconomic status, first generation to attend college, or prior attendance at Historically Black College or University (HBCU), Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), or other Minority-Serving Institution (MSI).

Award

CMU Rales Fellows will receive funding for full tuition and an annual stipend to cover living expenses, housing, and health insurance.
