FAS International Agricultural Scholarship

Identifies and prepares individuals interested in careers in the Foreign Service of USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service.

Overview

The Foreign Agricultural Service International Agricultural Scholarship is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program that identifies and prepares individuals interested in careers in the Foreign Service of USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. Those who successfully complete the program enter the Foreign Agricultural Service, a uniquely rewarding public service career. The program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in USDA and those with financial need. It is open to students and alumni of all universities and with any major.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have a 3.2 GPA
  • Intend to seek admissions to a two-year, full-time, on-campus master’s degree program at a U.S.-based graduate institution beginning in fall 2024 in Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics

Award

The FAS International Agricultural Scholarship provides the following:

  • Funding up to $42,000 per year for two years to attend two-year graduate programs in Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics at U.S. universities
  • A summer internship working at the FAS in Washington, D.C.
  • An overseas summer internship working an a FAS office at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate
  • Mentoring from an FAS Foreign Service Officer
  • Professional development activities
  • A pathway to employment in the FAS, with a five-year service obligation
