This fellowship offers a comprehensive program tailored for Black and African American students who are looking for their first internship in the aerospace industry.

Overview

The Patti Grace Smith Fellowship is designed to celebrate and serve Black Excellence in Aerospace. It is a comprehensive program tailored for Black and African-American students who are looking for their first ever internship in the aerospace industry. Fellows earn meaningful, competitively-sourced summer internships at some of the nation’s leading aerospace institutions – established companies, startups, government labs, universities, and more.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Black or African-American
  • A current student in a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree program
  • Seeking your first ever paid job/internship in aerospace

Students of any gender, age, economic class, major, GPA, college/university are eligible to apply.

Award

During their internships, Fellows will learn practical, on-the-job skills while contributing to an inspiring mission while also being paid a living wage. Each Fellow will be connected to a pair of mentors: one at the very pinnacle of the aerospace industry and the other only a few steps ahead of the Fellow along a career journey. The Patti Grace Fellowship provides early-career future leaders with a quickly expanding network of Black peers, colleagues, friends, and role models. An annual Summit and Team Projects undertaken by each class of Fellows help build bonds and forge productive relationships. Lastly, Fellows receive a cash grant of $2,500 or more than can be used to pay for tuition, school fees, or the books, supplies, and equipment required for their college coursework, letting them keep their focus on learning and growing as aerospace professionals.
